2. Reiterate the importance of Recycling
Aside from food waste, the leading contributor of waste in an OOSH/OSHC centre unsurprisingly stems from craft supplies. We’ve all seen children scribble in the corner of a piece of paper, never to be used again, or draw on fifteen sheets before throwing them all in the bin.
Changing these habits is tricky, but introducing a recycling bin in your centre will manage the amount of landfill produced by your children and staff alike. Placing this bin in your centre, and labelling what can go in each bin with pictures and drawings, is more likely to engage children and kickstart their enthusiasm for helping the planet.
Purchasing supplies made from recycled materials also goes a long way to ensuring craft activities are sustainable and wont contribute to landfill.
