The Treasure Hunt can take place in any area, with each superhero squad requiring 6 clues/items in order to move on to the next activity. These 6 items are the ingredients to make slime, the final weapon needed to defeat the villain-
- Baking soda
- Contact solution
- Shaving cream
- Food colouring
- Zip lock bag
Once each ingredient has been collected, the children make the slime while supervised. Each squad should make their slime a different colour in order to differentiate themselves from others. Children then take their slime (in the zip lock bags) and chase after the villain, however, in a doorway that leads to this villain and the final epic showdown, their path is blocked by the laser maze.
The maze is easy to set up, and requires red string and sticky tape. Placing string in various directions across the doorway, children must get through without touching any of the ‘lasers’ in order to complete the task. Everyone in the squad must do this before anyone can move on. The maze can be as large/difficult as you’d like.
Once a squad has made it past the laser maze, they meet the villain (in an outdoor space). The squad throws their slime at them, thus defeating the villain and ultimately succeeding in their superhero quest.
Each squad should take these activities in turns and encourage their squad members throughout.
It is important as educators to be enthusiastic and encourage fun in each of these activities, in order to reach the maximum level of enjoyment.
These themed days require a small amount of planning but are ultimately simple to set up and cater to children of all ages and abilities.
